Fat Hats - a mix between A and K.
It has the dark & brittle sound of the K series mixed with the clarity & impact of the A series.
Fat Hats started as an experiment in what turned out to be a success. Here, they have successfully mixed the slightly coarser hammer ring from the K series with the wider turning from the A series.
Zildjian has also made the difference in weight between the top and bottom cover smaller. This has made the model a bit of a chameleon that marries beautifully with the rest of your Zildjian cymbals whether the focus of your setup is the K or A series. When you play on a Fat Hat, you immediately recognize characteristics from the A series with a lovely top shimmer, but at the same time you recognize so much from the K series. A fragile and dark sound, a soft but clear touch and the wonderful dynamics from both series. The hi-hat openings are dark, soft and pleasant. The stamp sound is fluffy and dark but still clear and distinct.
14" has a clear stock definition, a fantastic dynamic, when played closed you have a clear but kind hi-hat and when played open it can sound quite mean fitting harder rock.
The size is listed as 14" but is actually slightly over-sized so the diameter is actually 14 1/8".
A perfect model for those looking for an all-round hi-hat that stands out from the crowd and has a character that's a little out of the ordinary, but doesn't completely take over the show.
