The PRS “Dead Spec” Silver Sky is designed specifically for John Mayer's needs when he played with Dead & Company on their recent tour.
It's a tribute to Jerry Garcia's iconic "Alligator tone" where John Mayer's Silver Sky is the starting point to create this Dead Spec model.
"Dead Spec" Silver Sky has a body in Swamp Ash with a very thin lacquer in Moc Sand satin finish. The bridge is a modified PRS Gen III Tremolo that is bolted to the body for maximum contact and has a brass string-trough bridge block.
The top saddle is also made of brass and to maximize the pressure over the saddle, a string pressure sits over all the strings to create even more resonance.
The most distinctive detail that distinguishes the Dead Spec model from the regular Silver Sky is the input jack, which has been replaced with an Alembic Blaster Preamp, also in brass. This preamp can give a boost of between 3-14 dB more signal when activated. This not only helps to add more punch to the tone, but also compensates for long cables which can cause you to lose some of the "top" in the tone.
