We at Ibanez are incredibly proud to have the incomparable Lari Basilio in our artist stable. Lari is a terrifically tasteful guitarist who, with a big, singing tone, aches wonderful melodies over our ears. She possesses all the technology you could ever want but seems gloriously freed from a constant desire to constantly show it off. One of the most interesting and musical guitarists to break through in the last 10-15 years.
Lari's model is based on the AZS series which in turn is based on the incredibly successful AZ series. Lots of features are recognizable from the AZ/AZS series but with a lot of Lari tucked into the mix, which gives a guitar that more than flies under its own name.
What is recognizable from the previous AZ is the 1-bit S-Tech rusted maple neck, stainless frets, bridge, alter switch, etc. The LB1 has birdseye maple in both neck and fingerboard, which gives it an expensive and sophisticated look. The neck profile is the same Oval C as other AZs but the fretboard is compound radius isf the constant 12" that other AZs have. 228mmR to 305mmR (regular AZs are 305mmR across the entire fretboard). The same perfectly treated stainless frets as previous AZ versions. The saddle is in oil impregnated bone.
The pickups are specially designed for Lari by Seymour Duncan. All are passive Alnico based pickups.
The seat is Gotoh made T1702B which is the same construction as the one on the previous Prestige AZ models but with saddles and seat blocks in brass (if titanium and steel). This gives the guitar a warmer tone with a little less bite in the attack. It is a saddle based on Gotoh's 510 saddle, considered by many to be the best non-locking 2-point saddle on the market. Here further developed with a different swing arm mount and a different and more comfortable profile on the saddles. Tasteful gold hardware if really matches the purple color of the guitar.
The tuning screws are Gotoh Magnum Lock with HAP, which means they are adjustable in height to be able to achieve perfect string pressure over the saddle on all strings. Which is important to get maximum tone out of the instrument.
The LB1 is a fantastic wide guitar that sonically works to play any style you can ever come into contact with on it. A true signature instrument through and through. Anyone who has followed Lari for a while knows that she really seems to like purple, so the color choice was not unexpected but incredibly beautiful.
